#210 - Performance Measurement: Establishing the Critical Link

           between Strategy and Execution

Course Description:  Performance measures are a critical link between strategy and execution.  An organization reflects its strategies and values by its choice of measurements and how these are used to influence employee behavior.    What is measured is managed and what is managed, leads to results.

Traditional approaches to performance measurement have been financially focused and serve a “command and control” function.     However, a rapidly changing business environment has placed new demands on measurement systems.  The need to control has been transformed into a need to “predict and prepare” the organization for the next challenge and opportunity.  Measurement systems are evolving from performance measurement to performance management, an integrated system that links strategy, resources, and processes in a coherent and understandable framework.

In this seminar, we will discusses integrated performance management systems (I-PMS) and how they differ from traditional performance measurement systems.  We will explain different types of performance management models including the Balanced Scorecard, the Intangible Asset Monitor, and the Skandia Navigator and how they can be applied in your organization.

You will discover the characteristics of effective performance indicators and learn to identify leading and lagging indicators to provide warning signals on areas that need attention.  You will learn how to assess your own performance management system and the steps involved in designing and implementing an integrated performance management system.  Finally, we will discuss the importance of management reporting and reviews to close the learning loop and produce results.
